The bridges are located on the SR 71 “Umbro-Casentinese-Romagnola” Regional Road; the first is at km 118+259 in the locality of Rassina in the Municipality of Castel Focognano, and the second is at km 173+102 in the locality of Camucia in the Municipality of Cortona.
Both were built in the 1960s and 70s, and the inspections carried out highlighted similar characteristics, showing widespread instability and degradation. Specifically, there were moisture stains, deterioration and leaching of the concrete in the arches and the masonry of the abutments, detachment of the rebar cover, transverse and diagonal cracks, and degradation of the support curbs for the road barriers.
Specifically, the service provided for each of the bridges in question was divided into two parts.
1. Design: Final Design, Executive Design, and Safety Coordination during the Design phase.
2. Execution of works: Construction Supervision and Safety Coordination during the Execution phase.
The work includes:
• patch repair of the surfaces of reinforced concrete elements by scarifying the concrete cover of the parts involved, mechanical cleaning of the surfaces to be treated, and protective treatment of the rebar;
• introduction of additional reinforcement to address flexural and shear deficiencies;
• jacketing of reinforced concrete elements using high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious mortar by casting into formwork or, in the case of horizontal elements, by spraying using piston or screw-type plastering machines;
• demolition of the old parapet and current bridge-side barriers for the subsequent construction of a new curb to support the new barriers;
• installation of new barriers on embankments to provide structural continuity to the new bridge-side barriers.
